Dasha Zhukova, the partner of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is planning to open a new gallery in Moscow’s Gorky Park.  The temporary structure will be installed as Zhukova awaits the completeion of her permanent gallery also in Gorky Park.  The building was designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban and will be built out six meter tall paper tubes.  The tubes will be waterproofed and insulated to withstand the bitter Russian winters.  In total, the structure will contain a café, a gift shop, and an 800 square meter exhibition space.  In 2008 Zhukova and Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst launched The Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow, which has become a prominent venue for modern and contemporary art. It is housed in the former Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage, designed in 1926 by the Constructivist architect, Konstanin Melnikov.  However, the site is now scheduled to house the Jewish Museum of Tolerance so the new gallery funded by Abromovich is slated to open next summer in the old former restaurant The Hexagon.
