New York based Icelandic artist Thordis Adalsteinsdottir presents her fourth exhibition of whimsical paintings and papier maché sculptures at Stux. Adalsteinsdottir puts forward what the press release refers to as “reductive visual distillations” and “ultra flat” imagery of friends, family, and animals in a manner similar to American artist Bill Traylor with a distinctive Nordic bend. Painted objects and patterns are added in a somewhat alien relationship to the overall subject to mimic collage techniques resulting in figurative paintings with strong abstract forms, colors, and composition.
