io9.com has a wonderful piece on Qalam Nabi, one of two remaining street photographers in Kabul who use the traditional kamra-e-faoree or wooden box camera to create passport photos by hand.  The clip below is a must watch for Luddites and photography enthusiasts of all levels as the entire proccess takes place on the street in broad daylight. The craft blossomed in the 1930s and 40s and was driven underground and almost to extinction by the Taliban who banned photography.
The technique has been documented by the Afghan Box Camera Project.
