Flea Market RenoirThe Telegraph is reporting that a woman purchased what is believed to be an original Renoir oil painting at the Harpers Ferry Flea Market in Harpers Ferry, West Virgina.  It did not appear to take too much sleuthing as the gilt frame contains a plaque bearing the artist’s name.  The unnamed woman immediately took the painting to the local auction house The Potomack Company which confirmed that attribution believing that it was purchased from a Paris gallery in 1926. They will put the piece in their September 29th auction presumably with an estimate around $100 thousand.

Correction:  We originally reported that the painting was purchased at a “local Alexandria, Virginia flea market” , later reports have concluded that the painting was purchased in 2010 at  the Harpers Ferry Flea Market in Harpers Ferry, West Virgina for $7 as part of a box of junk.
