After her jewelry collection was sold at Christie’s last month for a whopping $155 million, Taylor’s painting Portrait of a Man by Dutch Old Master Frans Hals went for over twice the presale estimate of $700,000 to $1 million for a solid $2 million.  The painting was a gift from her art dealer father Francis Taylor in the 50s.  Assumed to be by another artist, it was only recently authenticated as a genuine Hals after many years in her livingroom.  While her provenance has been credited with boosting the values of her former belongings, it is still her iconic image that really opens the wallets as a blue silkscreen painting of her face by Andy Warhol was hammered down at close to $27 million last May at Phillips de Pury & Co. in New York.
