The much anticipated Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern auction netted a whopping $330.6 million last night with the highlight of the evening undoubtedly being the sale of one of four versions of Edvard Munch’s iconic painting the Scream which sold for $119.9 million after being estimated at $80 million.  The buyer is still unknown at this point.  61 of the 76 lots found buyers with the second most expensive painting being  Femme Assise dans un fauteuil by Picasso which sold close to the high estimate of $30m at $29.2m. Christie’s more modest sale a day earlier saw its two top lots a watercolor of a Card Player by Cezanne and a still life by Matisse both go for $19.1 million.
