Walesonline.co.uk has reported that the owners of the early Picasso, Child with a Dove have asked Christie’s to sell the work.  The painting is owned by the Welsh Aberconway family and has been exhibited in the UK since the 1970s.  It is currently being shown at the Tate as part of the current Picasso exhibition and was recently housed in the Courtauld Gallery.

The painting was done by Picasso in 1901 in Paris when he was 19 and is expected to fetch at least £50 million.  While many have lobbied for a public purchase so the painting can remain in Britain, the National Gallery and the Scottish National Galleries recently spent most of their available funds to purchase a Titian painting Diana and Callisto from the Duke of Southerland for £45 million.
