On Saturday, an original cover from the 1932 Tintin in America sold for 1.3 million euros at the Artcurial auction house in Paris making it the highest priced piece of comic art ever sold.  The Tintin comic series by the Belgian artist Herge (Georges Remi) who died in 1983 has seen a bit of a resurgence recently with the release of the Stephen Spielberg’s cgi film The Adventures of Tintin released last year.  Very few original covers are believed to still be in existence and this record breaking artwork has close to doubled in price since it was auctioned in 2008 for 784,000 euros.  The work was purchased by an anonymous private collector and it is believed that the work will stay in France.
