Christie’s recent sale of  photos in New York by American photographer William Eggleston found buyers for all 36 lots totaling $5.9 million, averaging approximately $164 thousand a photo.  The star lot was an untitled photo of a tricycle from 1970 that netted $578,500 against an estimate of $200,000-$300,000.  All proceeds are going to the Eggleston Artistic Trust that according to its website,

The Trust was founded in 1992. It is an organization dedicated to the representation and preservation of the work of William Eggleston.
